Experts predict that the global barite consumption will reach 6.338 million tons in 2023,and the price will still keeps increasing

Barite is a non-metallic mineral product with barium sulfate (BaSO4) as the main component. The pure barite is white and glossy. The effect of impurities and mixtures is often gray, light red and light yellow, and the crystalline stone can also appear in a transparent crystal. Barite is a sulphate mineral. It is the most widely distributed barium bearing mineral in nature. Furthermore, barium can be replaced by strontium complete isomorphism to form lapis lazuli. It is partly replaced by lead to form North lapstone.

Barium sulfate, the main component of barite with high purity, fine particle size and uniform distribution. It has excellent properties such as chemical inertness, acid resistance, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, high whiteness, high refractive index, easy dispersion and so on. It also has strong ray absorption function. As a physical pigment, it is widely used in various kinds of advanced coatings, paints, ink and other industries. At the same time, as filler, which is also widely used in plastics, rubber, ceramics and friction materials. In addition, barium sulfate for drainage pipe, sound box and sound, which can effectively cut off noise. Finaly,  it could provides high gloss, good color phase, scratch resistance, good dimension stability when for household appliances.

As we all know, barite is an important mineral resource, and is mainly used in drilling industry (drilling rig). Regarding the barite protected areas, it are mainly distributed in China, India and Morocco. China is an important barite resource distribution area and barite producing area,  distributed in Guizhou, Guangxi and Yunnan provinces in China. There are many barite suppliers in China with low market concentration. For India, who has ranked second with its barite resources, also Andhra Pradesh mineral development company is a leading company in India.

The world's major barite production areas are China and India. In 2016, China produced 2.7711 million tons of barite, and India produced 1.1616 million tons. China and India are the two major exporters. At the same time, the United States is the main importing region. In 2016, the United States consumed 1.403 million tons, generating only 426,600 tons. Between 2012 and 2016, consumption in the United States dropped from 3,4330,000 tons in 2012 to 1,405,300 tons in 2016, which has a great impact on global consumption.

In the past five years, global total consumption fell from 9220.3 kt in 2012 to 6882.6 kt in 2017, with an average decrease of 5.68%. The price of barite rose from 69 dollars per ton in 2012 to 74 dollars per ton in 2013, and then declined in 2013. Since 2014, barite prices have continued to rise. At present, the average price of barite is about US$77/ton.

According to forecasts, global barite consumption will continue to decline in the future. By 2023, global consumption of barite will reach 6.338 million tons, and the average price will increase to 86 US dollars/ton.

China's barite is mostly exported in the form of raw ore and barium salt products. The main targets are the United States, Saudi Arabia, and the Netherlands. The international trade flow of barite has always been China's flow to the Gulf of Mexico. China is the world's largest exporter of barite, and the United States is the world's leading importer of barite. China and the United States are the world's largest suppliers of barite (producers) and demanders (consumers).

China's Barite is of high quality and abundant reserve resources, which is China's advantage. As the world's largest producer of barite and the second largest consumer, China has always dominated foreign trade and domestic consumption is mainly used for oil and gas exploration. With the development of the global economy, the development of the barite market is not stable at present, but in the long run, the demand for oil and natural gas will continue to rise. At the same time, the market of barium chemical industry will gradually warm up.
